Anita Baker, Albert Einstein, and God had a relationship in my mind.

I’ve been in the midst of a conversation on love with a close friend. Let’s call her Andi. Andy doesn’t believe in God. And quite frankly, I can’t blame Andi.

Andi sees what’s happening in the world, and can’t understand why a God would allow such things to happen. I can’t fault her for for feeling such a way. Anyway, we’re still working on trying to help her understand the concept and the power of love - as it flows from YHWH (God. and no, I’m not Jewish, Baptist, or of muslim faith. I just believe in the Creator of creators).

A few months ago, I heard a podcast interview with physicist Stephon Alexander. This guy is cool. He wrote a book that attempts to bridge the relationship between creation, the continuous expansion of the universe, and (jazz) music. Essentially, he argues that in the beginning of time, we recognize it as such due to the original vibrations (i.e. sound) that originated with the origins of the creation of our universe. Ultimately, he argues that sound, and therefore music, has more meaning and significance than people realize. His book and theories are absolutely amazing!

Anyway, here’s my point: love, YHWH, and music are one in the same… (and no, I don’t have scientific references to prove it. But I did see it looking out the window in the photo shown above…)

I listened to one of my most favorited songs ever, for the umpteenth time. But for the first time, today, I felt like I heard YHWH talking to me about why he loves me in that song.

I can’t make this shit up.

I’m not a religious freak, a pastor (though I’ve taught and ministered for quite some time in the past), or a bible-toting person 24-7. I’m deeply flawed. But what I know of myself is that music, since the beginnings of foster care in childhood for me, has always been a method of communication between me and deeper me - the me I often don’t understand. And this morning, as I listened to Anita while sipping some ol’ jim beam and gazing (out of the window in the photo above), It was like I heard YHWH talking to me through her lyrics. It was almost as if he were saying that there’s no specific reason He needs to love me. He just does, did, and always will. To tell the truth, it was a little scary. Because, if you’ve heard Anita Baker’s voice, you know she’s in an n of 1 in soulful music. And her voice carries across a house like no other! lol.

But if Stephen is right about sound (and therefore music), then it would scientifically, and spiritually make sense for an Eons-old God to communicate with his people in something as organic to the beginning of existence as sound.

I’m no physicist nor am I a religious bible-totin’ crazy person condeming everyone. BUT. I do believe in the power of music (sound) and the presence of my Creator. And I think I heard him clearly say:

And he used music to do it.

Now, imagine if people the world loved people, just because.
