A note on resting well.
After a long day of most of us are tired, heavily fatigued, somewhat aggravated, and ready to relax and prepare for the next round of 8 to 5. There's nothing wrong with that. As animals expending kilocalories to run the race of life, we need to rest in hopes that we might rejuvenate the metabolic processes in our bodies designed to synthesize and utilize foodstuffs for energy.
Here's the 'but'.
Work is good for the soul. It gives us purpose, meaning, and even adds value to our lives (Ecclesiastes 9:10). In our activities of daily living (including work), we should 'do it with all our might, that is, if we rightly desire well-being of ourselves and for others. In other words, we shouldn't have the need to scrape around the edges of the gas tank to look for energy we've inefficiently used throughout the day, in order to do something with half effort because it's on a to-do list or in a GTD system.
But that's what many of us do.
We find ourselves forcing ourselves to just make it through to lunch, then to end of the day. The problem is this: Throughout the day, we become fatigued, not because we've given 100% to the things we needed to spend our time on. No, no that's not why. We've worked hard to keep up images and perceptions of ourselves for all the wrong reasons. We've worked hard at procrastinating. We've worked hard hiding secrets. By the day's end, we've spent 10% of our day doing the things necessary to stay afloat, and 90% of our day treading water.
The main key to working well and being well, is being true and living in truth.
