Wellness in 60 Seconds: Recharged for the new year!
Why is it so hard to maintain a New Years resolution? Why is it so difficult to create new habits?
Good question! Here's the answer: Change is NEVER easy. The human condition is primed for habitual activity. A resolution is exactly the opposite of that. Most of us are attempting to develop new habits. Keep in mind - that most of us are also past the age of 25, which means that it is increasingly difficult to bisect some of our undesirable 'past' habits, with our desirable 'future' habits.
I'm not entirely certain that most folks understand the nature of a habit. When a habit is formed, this means you've committed almost a month to the corresponding activity, AND it also means that your brain has formed special 'tracks' that allow quick access and execution of that habit. This is why it's tough to break. The habit literally becomes you!
But it can be broken. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, thae brain can be rewired.
